Brian Quarrell

Terang-born Brian Quarrell’s employment with the Bank of New South Wales (later Westpac) took him to many country towns around Victoria. But Geelong was where the old St Joseph’s College pupil decided to make his home. Brian attended Terang Primary School before the family moved to Geelong and he completed his secondary schooling at St Joseph’s. In 1966 as a school-leaver, Brian joined the Bank of New South Wales at its North Geelong branch. Brian progressed through various roles, rising to Branch Manager.

In 1972, he married Helen and the couple have two children, Prue and Jarrod. Prue is a CPA who is working in New Zealand while Jarrod lives and works in Melbourne. After working at bank branches at Boort, Castlemaine, Camperdown and Corryong, the Quarrell family moved to Papua New Guinea where Brian was branch accountant and worked at the Westpac Popondetta branch.

Returning to Geelong in 1985, Brian spent two further years with the bank before joining Wheelers Investment Advisors in 1989. From a staff of two, Wheelers grew to 15 and Brian was a Partner in the firm. In 2013, Brian and his business partners sold the business to Bendigo Bank.

He is a member of the Financial Planners Association’s Geelong Chapter and its Chairman since 1998. Brian is a member of the Geelong Business Club and was president in 2003/4. Brian is putting back into Geelong through the Geelong Community Foundation and is a former Board Member.
