Joined the Board in 2020
Wendy is passionate about social justice, equity, human rights, and the arts. Her career has spanned law, music (professional violist), marketing, business development and fundraising for the tertiary education, environment and conservation, arts, health and medical research and social welfare sectors. Wendy was born and grew up in Geelong, before moving to Melbourne for tertiary studies and then lived in Zimbabwe with her Veterinarian husband for five years. Wendy, Rod and four children moved back to Geelong and Wendy was heavily involved in community music and education in the 1990s. From 2000, the family relocated to Melbourne. Over the past few years Wendy, Rod and most of the family have returned to live in Geelong and district and the family is increasingly involved in community work through volunteering and philanthropy.
As well as serving as a Director of the Geelong Community Foundation, Wendy’s other voluntary leadership positions include: Co-Chair, Human Rights Watch (HRW) Australia; Board Chair of InLife Independent Living Ltd; Board Director of Summer Housing Ltd and member of the Management Committee of Friends of Eastern Otways. Wendy serves on the HRW International Disability Rights Advisory Council and the Scope University of Melbourne Research Advisory Council and is an active member of ANGAIR. She was a founding member of the Australian Charity Law Association and the Melbourne Women’s Fund.
