2024 Adroit Golf Day Capital Grant awarded to The Empowerment Challenge

With much excitement, Adroit Insurance & Risk and the Geelong Community Foundation, is pleased to announce, local organisation ‘The Empowerment Challenge’ as the 2024 Charity Golf Day’s $75,000 Capital Grant recipient. Adroit Insurance & Risk staff at the Pitch and Vote night were captivated with The Empowerment Challenge’s presentation and their passion to support and positively impact the lives of young mothers in the region.

The Empowerment Challenge is a Geelong-based community organisation that provides younger mums with a safe space to feel empowered, connected, respected and valued through their 3 younger mums’ groups across Geelong.

The mums’ groups, located in Hamlyn Heights and Whittington support mental health and wellbeing and provide opportunities for informal mentorship and community connection. The groups also provide an opportunity to introduce younger mums to local services, including family violence support and for staff to assist mums to navigate day to day tasks that others might take for granted, for example completing Centrelink forms, preparing job applications or paying online bills.

Funding will enable the purchase of an eight-seater van, which is essential for the outreach service to sustain and enhance its operations, increasing its capacity to assist more vulnerable young mothers in the Geelong region. The addition of this vehicle will enable staff to engage with young mothers in the community through one-on-one informal meetings, encouraging relationships that promote their integration into weekly support groups.

Offering transportation to the weekly groups will assist in reducing isolation experienced by young mothers who do not have their own vehicles or the confidence to utilise public transport. The van will be equipped with baby seats, ensuring the mums and bubs are safely transported together.
