James Family Fund

Peter and Madelyn James

Peter and Madelyn James are long-term Lara residents with three children: Courtney, Elliott and Whitney. They are also proud grandparents of five grandchildren. Peter’s Lara-based business Lara Electronics is well known throughout Australia as a Radio Communication Equipment & Service Provider. Peter previously worked as a Senior Technical Officer in the Department of Defence. Madelyn has recently retired after a long career in Public School Administration and is now an enthusiastic Thermomix Consultant. They enjoy combining Peter’s work commitments throughout remote and rural Australia with a healthy dose of caravanning and overseas travel to tick items off their bucket list. Peter also enjoys socialising with other Amateur Radio enthusiasts at the Geelong Amateur Radio Club.

Peter and Madelyn felt that the nine impact areas of the Foundation ensure that the needs of the community are being supported from a number of perspectives. The ability to “leave it to the experts” means that they have the confidence in the expertise of the Foundation to ensure the grants provided by the Foundation are targeted and high impact.

The simplicity of the Foundation model and its low overheads was an important consideration. They particularly appreciated the way the Foundation nimbly reacted to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic in areas such as food relief and homelessness in the Greater Geelong region.
