Sun Family Fund

Matthew Sun and wife Min were both born in China – Matthew, a physics teacher and Min, an accountant. Coming to Australia in the 90s, they moved to Geelong in 1992 after their first child Teresa was born in Melbourne in May.

They purchased their first mixed business on Vines Road, Hamlyn Heights, before their second child David was born two years later. In 1996, they started a new computer business called BCC Computers in Belmont and soon after became an Internet Service Provider called Sunet. They now have multiple businesses in retail, IT, importing and a property development business – BCC Group Australia. Most recently, they completed the “Mercer” project, the first residential apartment tower over 15 stories in Geelong.

Matthew and Min are both active in community work, including being the past and present President of the Chinese Association in Geelong. They have also been the naming and major sponsor for the PAKO festival over the past 20 years.

“We have very successful businesses in Geelong with much support coming from the locals. Now it is time to pay return to the community and being part of the Geelong Community Foundation has helped us to achieve that. We also choose the Foundation because our contributions will accumulate over the years, with only the investment return on the Fund distributed to community organisations, ensuring the Foundation will last generation after generation,” shares Matthew. Matthew and Min are also donors of the Anam Cara project in Geelong and other charity events.
