2017 Grants

Somebodys Daughter Theatre Company — Somebody’s Daughter Theatre Company

Fifty-three diverse local projects and programs have been funded by the Geelong Community Foundation’s 2017 grants program and will help address our community’s greatest needs. The grants were announced on 15 May at a reception attended by more than 250 donors, community groups, and supporters.

Last week we’ve had the pleasure of looking back on the Geelong Community Foundation’s 25 year history through interviews with our Board Chair Michael Betts, Founding Director Val Lawrence, two of our incredible donors Hayden Torney and Barry Cooper, and three of our Grant Partners including Cottage by the Sea Queenscliff, Geelong Foodshare and The Empowerment Challenge.

It has been inspiring to hear how our grant funding is supporting our community and making a real impact in the lives of individuals and families.

We can’t wait to share this video with the Geelong community at our Annual Grant Reception and 25 year celebration in May.

This week our CEO Amy Waters and Development Manager Tony McManus connected with Barboros and Adrian from the Masters Summer League.

The Masters Summer League aims to provide mental and physical health benefits to people aged 35 and over, by delivering recreational football (soccer) competitions. This year the league had its highest number of teams and players and also include a women’s exhibition match.

The Masters Summer League raised a further $10,000 in support of the Geelong Community Foundation this year, taking its total raised to $20,000.

Amy said that the league is a fantastic way to engage older players in physical activity.

“The benefits go far beyond physical health with many of the players and their families reporting improved mental health and greater social connection,” she said.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support of the Masters Summer League and we look forward to another great season next year.”
